- The litter box has not been cleaned.
- There are not enough litter boxes. Make sure you provide a litter box for each of your cats.
- The litter box is too small.
- Your cat has no easy access to the litter box.
- Your cat's litter box has a hood or liner and she is not comfortable with it.
- The litter in the box is too deep. Cats prefer one or two inches of litter.
- Older cats or cats with physical limitations may have a difficult time using certain types of litter boxes such as top-entry boxes, or litter boxes with high sides.
- Stress can cause litter box problems. Cats might be stressed by events their owners do not find traumatic. Moving, adding new family members or pets to the household may trigger a litter box problem.
- Multi-Cat household conflict - one cat in the house may control access to the litter boxes preventing other cats from using them. Any conflict between cats may create enough stress to cause litter box problems.
Only ten percent of all cats develop litter box issues. When it happens it's one of the most unsettling situations you can experience with your beloved feline. If your cat is not comfortable with her litter box or can't easily access it, she probably won't use it. It should be clean and located in a quiet place. You should scoop it twice a day and replace the litter at least once a week (it depends on the type of litter). Please see below some of the most common causes related to litter box accidents: Some of our caregivers have litter boxes of their own. Many clients prefer to bring their own litter box and litter. Another option for a short term boarding is to bring a disposable litter box. The litter should be provided (or paid for by the client). Book your next cat boarding service in advance!

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. We have selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats! Lynn started working with us in 2013. She has since established long-term collaborations with many clients. All her clients rave about Lynn and send us positive feedback. Cats love to stay in her spacious 1 bedroom apartment, a clean and organized space full of light and adapted to cats: "Besides having a trinket-free home, I made a cat-friendly environment by cutting up an old yoga mat and placing the cushy, non-skid strips on top the bookcases, bureau, armoire, window ledges and other places a cat might leap up or down to. They treat my apartment like a gymnasium, which is fun for both of us." Lynn is a public affairs writer and poet. She has lived in New York for 25 years and grew up all over the United States. Lynn always loved cats and had several of her own before she became a caregiver for KittyinNY. She grew up with a Siamese cat named Sue Chang and a tuxedo cat named Mittens, and as an adult lived with two rescue kitties, Jack Burns and Louise. If you live close to Riverdale, Bronx Lynn would be the ideal person to take care of your cat the next time you leave the city. Please contact us in advance to book your service. She's awesome! REVIEWS Allison - follow up survey * * * * * LYNN IS AMAZING. Truly. She is a lifesaver and really gives such wonderful care to our kitty Harley. I can't say enough how thankful we are that she's been able to watch Harley when we travel. Harley has some health issues, and leaving her is stressful. Lynn makes it easier! Thank you! John - follow up survey * * * * * Lynn was the perfect caregiver. I could tell she really loves cats and treated my babies as if they were her own. I really appreciated the daily updates and pictures that Lynn sent to me while I was away. I feel so blessed that now I could count on Lynn to take care of my kitties whenever I go out of town. Jesse and Jane - follow up survey * * * * * She provided daily updates on our cat, was warm and welcoming, and clearly loves cats! Benjamin - follow up survey * * * * * We've had Lynn watch our cat a couple of times now, and she's been great. She genuinely cares about the cat's well-being, and keeps us informed of her temperament and activities throughout the time we're away. We couldn't ask for anyone better! Jonathan - follow up survey * * * * * Lynn was Amazing. Godzilla was so well taken care of! We would definitely use her again. We feel like she really tried to make him as comfortable in the new environment as possible, and she even gave us some tips on playing with him. Really really excellent experience. Anastacia S. * * * * * The experience over all was so much better than I could've hoped for. After having met Lynn, I didn't worry about the cats a bit, but she still sent me photos and updates. It was great to see that they were enjoying their vacation as well! Allison M. * * * * * These guys are the best. I left my kitty with Lynn over in Prospect Heights when I traveled to Hawaii for two weeks. I swear my cat was happier when I came back than when I left! Lynn regularly sent me updates and photos, which was so nice and helpful. Her home was perfect for a kitty. Lots of fun surfaces for her to jump on and lots of toys. Plus, they are super, super affordable. I have vetted other boarding services and they were so insanely overpriced. I was happy to find Kitty in NY-- affordable, high quality care. Your kitty will be in the best hands imaginable. I hate traveling for extended periods of time because of my cat, but leaving her with Lynn made my trip that much more enjoyable. Casey - follow up survey * * * * * Lynn is so caring, thoughtful, and such a wonderful person. We love our kitty very much and hate leaving her for any number of days -- but we have never felt more assured that all of Tilly's needs are being met (above and beyond) than when we leave her with Lynn. From the administrative side, we have a deep respect for Jose and how quick and efficient he is. Highly recommend KittyinNY! Nora R. * * * * * Lynn! She is absolutely amazing. From the first email I could tell that my little girl was in the right hands and apartment. We went for a site visit to check out the space and it was a cat's paradise. She has so many fun areas for cats to explore and in an immaculate, safe and cheery environment. Lynn's calm demeanor and knowledge of cats quickly assured me that the only thing i had to worry about is whether or not my cat would want to return home with me. She sent many photos and updates every day which I really appreciated. She gave me some good tips for feeding and caring for her. I am so thrilled to know I have someone i can trust when I'm away. Thanks Lynn and Thanks Kitty in NY! The old saying "you are what you eat" applies to cats too! Food and nutrition is the key to a prime health and longevity for cats.
Cats must eat a lot of meat for protein and fat. They are carnivores. A cat's system is not designed to process carbohydrates, that is why a diet loaded with carbs can lead to obesity and health issues (like diabetes). When selecting your cat food let your vet guide you. You should always make sure the label says it meets the standards set by the American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). That ensures the food meets the minimum nutritional needs for your cat. You can ignore the terms "gourmet", "premium", "natural" which have no standard definition. Cats are finicky eaters. If your cat doesn't like the food you should try with a different flavor or brand. Cats can go on a hunger strike rather that eat something they don't like. A cat that doesn't eat can suffer liver failure and get fatally ill. If you do the switch from one food to another, introduce the new food gradually and make sure it doesn't cause any gastrointestinal upsets (such as diarrhea). Indoor cats have a tendency to gain weight. Ask your vet about feeding portions and stick to them (although they may seem little to you). That way your cat will keep a healthy weight. Cats like to eat small meals during the day. If you leave food out your cat may come and graze when they feel the need to nibble. You can put out half in the morning and half when you return from work. Don't give too many snacks to your pet! Just like with people, too many snacks are not healthy (cat snacks are usually too salty). If you need to board your cat with Kitty in NY you should provide the food. We also require the feeding instructions (portions and times per day). Give us as much information as possible so the assigned caregiver can follow your feeding routine. Your cat will be happy when he receives the same food during the boarding. You will be able to enjoy your time away from New York without worrying about your cat. Cats might be a low-care pet, but not a no-care! He's dependent on you to provide for food, lodging, health care, training and lots of love. Knowledge on your cat's needs will help provide the best possible care.
Caring for your cat is essential. A safe and healthy home environment is what your pet deserves. Remember to book a nice cat boarding temporary home during your trips and holidays. Kitty in NY has loving temporary homes in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. We'll be glad to help you with your cat/s! |
