- Feeding: a nutritious diet is critical to your cat's health and longevity. In addition to daily dry food (in moderation) you should feed moist food periodically. Please try to avoid overfeeding. Most city cats are fat and this might lead to health issues (like diabetes). Invest in a quality brand, your cat will live a happy and long life. Cheap brands do not contain all the nutrients your cat needs. Cats also need fresh water all the time.
- Exercise and playtime: playtime is essential to your cat's well being. Cats can sleep for many hours and are very independent but they need to interact with you. Specially single cats! Try to spend at least 15 minutes twice a day playing with your feline. There are multiple cat toys in the market. The important thing is that your cat moves and runs, "hunting" the feather or laser point. It will help you and your cat bond.
- Health care: we covered the two most important parts of a healthy cat, a good diet and exercise. Your cat needs a veterinary check up at least once every one or two years. Your vet will give you information about vaccinations. To make the visit less stressful, get a good pet carrier where your cat fits comfortably and leave the carrier our for a few days before the visit so your cat gets used to it. Try to practice regular care such as brushing or nail trimming.
- Litterbox: the litterbox should be placed in a quiet spot. Clean it as often as possible and use your kitty's favorite litter.
Caring for your cat is essential. A safe and healthy home environment is what your pet deserves. Remember to book a nice cat boarding temporary home during your trips and holidays. Kitty in NY has loving temporary homes in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. We'll be glad to help you with your cat/s!
