Frequently Asked Questions
Send us your questions! We can help you find cat sitting and boarding services: [email protected]
What is the difference between cat sitting and cat boarding?
Which is better for my cat?
We recommend cat sitting for short/mid-term time periods (1-5 days) or when you have more than 2 cats. One of our Caregivers will go to your apartment to take care of your cat(s) needs, and play with them.
I already know which service I need. What is next?
Complete and submit the Contact form. We will respond promptly.
What does it cost?
Visit our website rates page for more information. Rates are based on length of stay and specific requirements. Once you forward a Contact form you will receive a personalized quote, in writing.
How much is the agency fee? How much is the Caregiver fee?
You will receive one (1) quote which includes both fees.
What is the booking procedure?
What forms of payment do you accept and when are the payments due?
If my cat is not spayed or neutered would you take care of him/her?
All cats are required to be spayed or neutered and all their shots up to date for cat boarding services.
Do I need to sign a contract?
Yes. All service agreements are written/signed. A contract will be forwarded to you once payment has been received. You can eSign the service agreement or bring a printed copy to your Caregiver.
Will my cat receive individualized attention?
Yes. Our Caregivers devote their attention to your cat(s) exclusively. No other animals will be in their home..
Can I visit the apartment and meet the Caregiver before making a final commitment?
Yes. We recommend you visit the prospective Caregiver before you confirm your reservation. Caregivers are available for a brief free introductory meeting in their home.
What happens if I do not like the apartment or the caregiver? Will I lose the money if I have paid the agency fee?
There are so many pet care businesses in New York City. What makes you different?
Our Caregivers are carefully selected and screened. They love cats but do not have pets of their own. Bringing your cat to a Caregiver is like giving your cat their own vacation home, where they will not spend hours alone, with unknown animals, or in a cage.
What areas of New York City do you cover?
Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens. We also have a limited number of Caregivers in New Jersey, within an easy commute to Manhattan. We can help you find a pickup and delivery service. Contact us and we will do our best to help find a solution for you.
What happens if the Caregiver cancels the service after I have paid the agency fee? Will I lose the money I already paid?
Should a Caregiver have an emergency and be forced to cancel we will provide another option. If the service is not provided the agency fee will be refunded.
How will I know how my cat is doing while I'm away?
Caregivers communicate directly with clients by email or text messages, providing periodic updates and photos. The frequency of updates is stated contractually.
What happens if I have an emergency and need to leave the city immediately?
We do our best to accommodate last minute requests. But we can’t guarantee that we'll be able to help you find a solution. A last minute (less than 24 hour) surcharge will apply.
What is your cancellation policy?
What happens if I need to change my dates after paying the agency fee?
What happens if I return sooner or later than expected?
The Caregiver's fee will be refunded or paid for the number of days not used or added, (check in and check out dates are considered as 1 full day in boarding). The daily fee is calculated by dividing the total caregiver's fee by the number of days booked at the start of the service. If you only need 1 extra day, you should pay $35 to the caregiver.
What is the procedure if I need to extend the cat boarding service?
May I tip my Caregiver?
Absolutely! Tips are not required, but always appreciated.
May I tip my booking agent?
You can add a tip when you pay the agency fee via PayPal, Square or Venmo. Kitty in the City donates the tips we receive during the booking process to these rescue groups:
How far in advance do I need to book?
Ideally, a minimum of two/three days’ notice is appreciated. Though we understand that is not always possible. Advanced booking is highly recommended for holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas) and summer vacation times. We often find ourselves fully booked for holidays one month in advance.
Are the Cat Sitters you recommend insured?
Our Cat Sitters are insured.
May I tip my Cat Sitter?
Absolutely! Tips are not required, but always appreciated.
Can I set the times of the cat sitting visits?
Caregivers work between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Our caregivers will also do their best to accommodate requests for more specific time frames whenever possible. Please discuss any specific requests with your caregiver.
