You still don't have a cat!?

Cats are beautiful and amazing creatures. They will keep you company and will add quality to your life. Cats are very easy to care for and maintain.

  • Housebreaking takes about a minute. Just tuck a litter box with clean litter in an out-of-the-way spot in your home, and voila! Tiger is fully house trained!
  • You don’t have to give up being a clean freak. No need to worry about a dirty, smelly kitty rolling around on your carpet or your furniture. Healthy felines keep themselves clean from head to toe.
  • No guilt trips. Unlike your dog, who will drop his tail and look at you with a forlorn expression when you can’t stop what you’re doing to play with him, if you need to put your kitty off for a bit, she’ll wander away, not seeming to mind. You’ll find her later stretched out contentedly in her favorite napping spot.
  • You can stay warm, even in the dead of winter. As most folks owned by cats can attest, there’s nothing that compares to the coziness of a kitty curled up in your lap

In-Home Boarding: the best solution for mid/long term

4/22/2023

In-home boarding is the best cat care solution for mid-long term services. We connect you with a loving temporary home where you can leave your cat until you come back. You can now take a long break, pursue a career opportunity overseas for a few months or visit family and friends for long periods of time. Your cat will be in good hands and you will receive periodic updates during the boarding. It’s 24-hour care in the hands of cat lover for an affordable rate. Kitty in NY selects the best caregivers in the city. Our clients send reviews and feedback after every service.

We visit and meet the caregivers to ensure they are qualified to watch your cat. Once we double check availability with the caregiver for your dates, you may meet and visit the perspective caregiver. The in-home cat boarding service provides a no cost, no obligation meet and greet for the client and potential caregiver to see if it will be a good fit.

In-home cat boarding services offer cats individual attention, your cat/s would be the only pets in the apartment. They can also keep up with your pet’s regular routine — including eating schedules, grooming necessities, and daily playtime requirements — so your cat has less anxiety while you’re away.

Kitty in NY isn’t just about connecting owners and caregivers but also ensuring quality through caregiver reference checks, reviews, personal interviews, online training and follow up during the boarding:
  1. Is the caregiver’s home safe? Before you head out to tour Europe, head over to the caregiver's apartment that you’re considering to confirm your cat will be placed in a cat friendly, secure home. The meet and greet is free, it is the best way to ensure the caregiver we selected is your best match. We can propose several caregivers until you find your match.
  2. Are the caregivers responsible and reliable? We meet and interview all our caregivers. They have been cat owners that for different reasons do not own a cat at the moment. They have the experience of taking care of a cat and enjoy cat company.
  3. Our caregivers have no pets of their own, your cat will be the only pet in the apartment. This helps reduce the stress of your cat and the time to get adjusted to the new environment.
  4. What’s the daily routine of your cat? If your cat needs his pill at a certain time of day, or likes to play with you before dinner time, be sure that the in-home boarding care will be accommodating following your cat's routine. Consider feeding, medication, physical needs and hygienic needs. All those details will be included in the contract.
  5. Provide full disclosure. In addition to interviewing the in-home cat caregiver, providing an out-of-town contact number, it’s a cat parent’s job to be open and transparent about a cat’s needs. Share as much info about your cat’s personality, needs and medical history as possible to ensure your pet has a fabulous time on his vacation!

Kirin lives in a spacious 1-bedroom apartment located on Central Park West. Your cat is welcome to join her in.

I also know how important it is to feel connected while away from your cat and therefore would be available to talk, text, Facetime/Skype or send pics whenever you like.

Kirin was fabulous -- very responsible and very caring for our cat. Our cat, Nala, took to her immediately, even though Nala is generally shy! Kiren sent us photos regularly, and was ready for our pick-up. Kirin was also flexible about our drop off time which was helpful.

Siamese: amazing eyes!

The first cat with Siamese markings appeared on an engraving discovered by a Mr. Pallas on his journey into Russia in 1794. There is no record of Siamese cats as a breed until the 1800s. In 1884 the departing British Consul-General Gould was given a Siamese cat by the Siamese king as a gift. It was a great honor since the cat came from the royal family. The progeny of this cat given to Consul-General Gould was exhibited by his sister, Mrs. Lilian (Gould) at the Crystal Palace Show in October 1885. These cats were so extraordinary that they captured immediate attention. The first Siamese cat club was founded in England in 1902.

Siamese cats arrived to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. The Siamese Cat Society of America was founded in April 1909. Its popularity reached a peak in the 50's and 60's when Siamese cats appeared in movies such as "That Darn Cat", "The Incredible Journey", & Disney's classic "Lady and the Tramp".

The Siamese is an very intelligent cat. They are talkative and tend to become very close to their human companions. Their meow is quite unique (deep and loud).

Picture
The Siamese coat pattern is beautiful. The face, ears, paws and tail have darker colouring, the body is light. Their amazing eyes are blue and almond shaped. The most commonly known colours are seal, blue, chocolate and lilac.

New Yorkers love Siamese cats. Many of our clients contact us with lovely Siamese kittens. If you need to book an in-home boarding service or a cat sitting service try to contact us at least two weeks before your departure. Kitty in NY offers the best in-home boarding solutions in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. We would love to help you find the perfect temporary home for your cat/s or the right cat sitter while you're away.

Great people we have met! - Genna

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

Hi! I'm Genna Beth. I live in LIC/Astoria. I grew up with two cats, Toffee and Bananas. Prior to moving to NYC, I lived in CT with Apollo (the cat in the photo with me), a roommate's cat. I would care for him when she was out of town. We loved to cuddle, and I miss him dearly. I really love all animals, but especially cats, and while I'm not yet ready to bring one permanently into my abode in NYC, I love having furry friends to care for. Many cats take a while to warm-up to a new human, and I'm happy enough to sit patiently until my attention is requested. Then, a grand-kitty-romp or a sit-and-pet are equal treats for me. I always hope to reach the level of cuddle-buddy with a cat, but I realize that's generally reserved for the closest of human friends. As a freelance puppet builder by trade, I work mostly from home so I have the flexibility to get out for cat visits at a wide variety of times. I look forward to meeting you and your kitty (or kitties) soon!

If you live in LIC or Astoria and need a cat sitter during a short trip or a vacation, Genna might be available to take care of your kitties. Contact us and send more details about your cat/s and the service you need. We'll be glad to help you.

Jeremy provides cat sitting and boarding services in Astoria, Queens

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

Hello! My name is Jeremy and I am living in the LIC/Astoria area. While I don't have any cats at the moment, I did grow up having cats and understand it can take some time to build trust, just like it does with people. However, once you have a feline's trust, the relationship is truly rewarding. It's all about having patience and allowing the relationship to build on the cat's terms. My full time job is in sales so I am used to and enjoy building relationships whether it be with people or a kitty. I am only in the office part time and have a flexible work from home schedule most days. This allows me to partake in things I like such as playing sports and going to see live music. These events happen in all the boroughs so while I live in LIC/Astoria, I am happy to travel to wherever you are located to spend time, play, and care for what I am sure you consider to be your friend/family member.
Picture
If you are located in Astoria or the surrounding area, Jeremy might be available to take care of your cat/s. We recommend cat sitting visits for weekends or short term services. If you are leaving the city for a few weeks you might consider in-home boarding instead. Contact us and send more details about your cat/s and the service you need, we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Exotic Shorthair

4/3/2023

If you're looking for a calm cat like a Persian but easy to care for, look no further, the Exotic Shorthair is what you've been looking for. Their shedding is minimal but they still have a silky, plush and luxurious coat.

A breed with barely 50 years of history, the Exotic can be described as a short-haired Persian. American Shorthair breeders bred to Persians to obtain new coat colors and green eyes. The kittens were so pretty to look at, just like Persians but with a short, dense plush coat. Very fast they have become a popular breed and there are many reasons to explain this popularity.

The Exotic Shorthair is easy-going and affectionate, a gentle cat who rarely meows. They will follow you from room to room and demand attention. They get close to their humans! Exotic Shorthair cats enjoy simple pleasures. They can play with a paper ball and will happily curl up on your lap while you read or use your computer. They don't need much space, which makes them ideal for an apartment, a true companion pet.
