Are cats so independent?

You hear a lot "cats never make good pets because they are very independent", "a cat never becomes attached to you like a dog". Is this really true?

Cats can be affectionate and responsive. It all depends on what you offer them. If you ignore them they will ignore you back and enjoy and happy lonely existence in your apartment. If you spend time with them, talk to them and give them affection and play time they will become close and return just as much love an affection. They will bond with you.

The good part is that your cat can be independent too. They don't need the care and attention a dog requires. They can take care of themselves. That doesn't mean they don't love companionship, it just means they are happy with themselves.

Most cat owners think of their cats as close companions, as members of their family. Cat owners talk to their cats, share holidays with them, celebrate birthdays and special occasions with their cats. Cats greet their owners at the door and follow them to every room in the apartment. Some cats sleep on the bed of their owner every night. Cats can be a very important part of your life.

If you're thinking "my cat is not like that at all" you can change that. Regardless of your cat's personality, paying attention to your cat and spending time with them can make a big difference. Your cat already knows you, is used to your life and environment. Start calling him when you return home, talk to him when you feed him, get some cat toys and play with him. You will see how your relationship with your cat changes.
  • Understand that a cat can be just as loving, dependent and attached to you as you like
  • Cats can take care of themselves
  • Most cat owners in New York think of their cats as close companions, they share their life with their cats
  • If your cat is not friendly start paying attention to kitty
  • Do not leave your cat alone for long periods of time
Cats are emotional creatures. They can experience loneliness, depression, separation anxiety. You should not leave your cat alone for long periods of time in your apartment, even if your friend/neighbor comes once every few days to clean the litter box and feed him. Cat boarding is a much better solution. Your cat will enjoy the company of other humans who will interact with him.
