We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

I grew up with two Maine Coon cats in the beautiful state of Maine and have fostered frequently over the years. I also worked for 3 years part-time at an animal daycare. I am comfortable giving medication, performing animal CPR, and handling aggressive cats, amongst normal activities! Please let me know if your pet is reactive, allergic to anything, or has any particular likes & dislikes! I'd love to know as much about your cat(s) as possible, so he/she feels comfortable and safe with a new companion!

In-home boarding is perfect for your longer trips. You can enjoy your vacation or holiday knowing your cat will be in good hands. Laura will be glad to help you! Contact us and send more details about your cat/s and the service you're looking for, we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Laura gave my senior cat so much love and attention and kept me in the loop while I was away with photos and messages. My cat needs MANY medications, so it is asking a lot of any caregiver, but she handled it all without stress. My kitty came home so relaxed and we had no issues :)

City Cats: Why Felines Rule the Urban Jungle

9/5/2025

If you’ve ever walked through New York City, chances are you’ve spotted them: cats peeking out of bodega windows, lounging on brownstone steps, or ruling the apartment window sills like furry landlords. Gatos and NYC go together like bagels and cream cheese.

Life in the big city can be noisy, fast, and overwhelming—but cats? They’re the masters of calm. While humans rush for the subway, cats stretch, yawn, and remind us to take life one nap at a time.

Why do cats thrive in the city?
  • Small-space champions: A studio apartment in Manhattan may feel like a shoebox to you, but to a cat, it’s a palace full of secret corners.
  • Street-smart ancestors: Even indoor cats in NYC inherit that “don’t-mess-with-me” energy. Pigeons, beware.
  • Window entertainment: Who needs Netflix when you have fire escapes, traffic, and the occasional squirrel to watch?
The city cat is always watching.
The city cat is always watching.
And let’s not forget the famous bodega cats. These furry employees keep stores rodent-free, greet customers with a flick of the tail, and sometimes even guard the cash register (okay, mostly they nap on it). They’re so much part of the city that many New Yorkers feel a corner deli isn’t complete without one.

At Kitty in NY, we know how important your feline roommate is. Whether you’re heading out of town or just need a helping hand, our sitters and hosts make sure your urban jungle king or queen is treated like royalty—while you handle your busy city life. Contact us and send more details about your cat/s and the service you're looking for, we'll be glad to help you.
Bodega royalty: every corner store in NYC needs its own feline manager.
Bodega royalty: every corner store in NYC needs its own feline manager.
Because at the end of the day, New York might be the city that never sleeps, but cats? They’ll nap right through it.

Hi, I'm Melissa - I've been a volunteer cat foster parent for two years, and a lifelong cat lover who's had many special kitties as pets. I pride myself on understanding cat communication and body language very well, and interacting with them on their terms. Whether they want to snuggle, play, or even hide, I create a safe and peaceful environment for them to be themselves. I love all of their unique personalities and delight in getting to know them, even for a short time. I've included pictures with me snuggling with my foster cats - from the most outgoing to the absolute shyest, I've bonded with all of them and they all have a special place in my heart! I know your kitty is one of your most special family members and I take the responsibility to care for them very seriously.

Meet Harley – Cat Boarding in Brooklyn by Barclays Center

8/21/2025

If you’re looking for a safe, loving, and attentive boarding option for your cat in Brooklyn, we’re thrilled to introduce Harley Chung, one of our trusted caregivers. Harley offers cat boarding in her bright and cozy studio apartment, located in a doorman building right by the Barclays Center.

Hi I go by Harley and I'm excited to be your trusted temporary cat caregiver. I used to have a cat named Latte Cat and I loved him so much but we had to go our separate ways when I moved across the country to NYC about 3 years ago. Maybe that's a sad story but I share that story to tell you that I could understand how much you might miss your pet even if you're temporarily out of town!

Currently, I'm working as a child & adolescent psychiatric nurse practitioner, and also working on my doctoral degree. I have lots of papers to write and because I do my best work at home, I would love to have quiet company and give lots of love to your cat baby while you're away. Hope to meet you and your pet soon!
Picture
Harley lives in a renovated, stylish studio apartment on the 27th floor of a modern doorman/elevator building. The space is filled with natural light from large windows (which are never opened, for safety), making it a bright and inviting environment for a cat. There’s a cozy bed for lounging and quiet corners for napping — perfect for cats who enjoy relaxing near their human companion. Since Harley spends much of her time working at home on her doctoral papers, she looks forward to having a feline friend by her side.

Harley’s background in healthcare as a psychiatric nurse practitioner reflects her natural empathy, patience, and attentiveness — qualities that extend seamlessly to her care for animals. With her calm personality and love for cats, she provides a safe and affectionate boarding environment.

If you’re traveling and want peace of mind knowing your cat is being cared for in a warm, secure space, Harley is ready to welcome your furry friend. Contact us and send more details about your cat/s and the service you're looking for.

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

Hello, I am Michelle….. I am a resident of the Lower Manhattan Financial District for the past 18 years. I am 42 years old and have been a cat lover / owner my entire life. I have had cleaning jobs which entailed me being trusted with my client’s keys to their apartments. I had one cat Rumsfeld who was diagnosed with hepatic lipidosis, a disease which normally does not end well. This meant for a large part of his life I had to feed him and medicate him through a tube. I was able to nurse him back to health and he lived another 10 years. So I have experience dealing with sickly kitties and have no issues with medication…..

In closing I currently have 3 cats, Grissom, Brooklyn and Roger, who I love dearly. Roger even has his own Instagram page.  If given the opportunity I promise to show your furry companions the same love I show my own and to respect your personal space as if it were my own.
Picture
If you live downtown Manhattan Michelle would be happy to visit your kitties in your home. Our 30 min cat sitting visits include: feeding, water refill, cleaning of all bowls, scooping litter box (change of litter when needed), cleaning of feeding and litter box areas, playtime and petting when cats are willing to interact and photo/video updates after each visit. Our cat sitters are insured and bonded.

Contact us and send us your dates/number of visits. We'll be glad to help you with your cat/s while you're away.

Michelle has been taking care of my cat for a while now. Cassie is getting older and she has several chronic conditions. She always takes great care of her. This last time, Cassie stopped eating and was acting sick. She didn’t hesitate to take her to the vet and take amazing care of her. I was so scared being away and although nothing could take away my fear, Michelle did an amazing job making sure my cat was cared for and safe. It honestly brought me to tears coming home to a cat that was eating and happy. I can’t recommend this company enough. and they are more than lucky to have someone compassionate, considerate and cat loving like Michelle working for them.

Danielle and Marshall provide cat sitting visits in Brooklyn an the FiDi, New York

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

Danielle and Marshall have been working with us since 2016. They will enjoy visiting your cat/s in your apartment. You will receive photo updates after every visit to let you know how your feline friend/s are doing.
Danielle: In my life I have owned 3 cats (2 at a time). One of my cats was diabetic, so I have experience with giving insulin shots and caring for cats with special medical needs. I live with my boyfriend, who has also owned cats in the past.
I am a doctor podiatrist, I have experience with giving injections, pills and IVs in humans, and injections in cats.

Marshall: I am a financial editor living in Boerum Hill, working in the FiDi. I live with my wonderful girlfriend, Danielle, who introduced me to the Kitty in NY service when she asked if I wanted to board cats in our apartment. Being a cat lover I immediately agreed, and we’ve hosted many excellent kitty guests since. Expanding into the caregiving role simply increases the opportunities I have to make more feline friends. I grew up in rural upstate NY and had many different pets growing up: dogs, cats, chickens, horses and once a very irritable goat. Cats have always been my favorite, as they are by far the most interesting (sometimes maddening). I am experienced in handling the diverse personalities of cats and can recognize when your cat wants to play and when they just want me to leave them alone. I enjoy sending fun updates to my client’s owners and will, if allowed, inundate you with pics of your pets being thoroughly spoiled while you’re away.
If you live in northern Brooklyn or in the FiDi, Danielle and Marshall could be available to visit your cat/s in your apartment until you return. Our cat sitting service makes it easy to leave the city for a few days. You will receive updates after each visit. Contact us and send more details about your cats and the service you need.

At KITTY in NY, we are proud to work with an exceptional group of caregivers who share one important quality: they truly LOVE cats. Over the years, we’ve carefully selected individuals who bring warmth, reliability, and compassion to every cat they meet. Today, we’d like to introduce you to Denny, one of our most dedicated boarding caregivers in Jamaica Estates, Queens.

I’m Denny Daniel, curator and founder of The Museum of Interesting Things. I’ve spent my life teaching both children and adults, which has given me a friendly, curious approach to the world—and to the wonderful pets I meet!

I work for myself, which means I’m home often and able to give your cat plenty of attention. My beloved rescue cat, Tristan, was my pride and joy—pampered and loved every single day. Over the years, I’ve also cared for countless cats belonging to friends, so I’m experienced with all kinds of feline personalities.

I live with my mother in a beautiful, clean, and spacious private home in Jamaica Estates, Queens. Here, your cat will enjoy the same level of care and affection that Tristan once did. I also have an apartment in the Village, where my museum resides, and I own a car—so I can even arrange pick-up and drop-off for your cat anywhere in the city.

I’m also a photographer and teacher, so expect picture-perfect updates—your cat will truly be the cat’s meow!

If you need to leave the city for an extended period, in-home boarding is the ideal solution. With me, your cat will be the only pet in the home, and you’ll receive regular updates throughout their stay.
Contact us today with the details of your trip, and we’ll get back to you promptly to arrange the perfect stay for your feline friend.

Should You Take Your Cat on Vacation? Probably Not — Here’s Why

8/7/2025

As cat parents, we often wish we could take our furry companions everywhere. A weekend getaway to the mountains? A beach vacation in the sun? It sounds lovely — for you. But what about your cat?

The truth is, most cats do not travel well, and bringing them along on vacation can cause more stress than joy. Here’s why staying home might actually be the best gift you can give your cat while you’re away.

Cats Are Creatures of Habit
Unlike dogs, who often enjoy new places and social adventures, cats thrive on routine and familiarity. Their comfort comes from their territory — the smells, the sounds, the hidden corners they’ve claimed as their own.
Disrupting that routine, even for a short trip, can lead to:

  • Anxiety or behavioral changes
  • Refusal to eat or use the litter box
  • Hiding or aggressive behavior
  • Motion sickness during transport

Planes, Trains, and Car Rides = No Fun for Cats
Travel itself is rarely enjoyable for cats. Whether it’s a car ride filled with bumps and strange noises, or the overwhelming experience of flying in a carrier under an airplane seat, the journey is usually terrifying for them.

Even if you reach your destination safely, a hotel room or rental home smells nothing like home — and your cat may spend the entire vacation under the bed.
Picture
The Best Place for Your Cat? Home.In most cases, the kindest and safest option for your cat is to stay in their familiar environment while you’re away.
This can be done in two ideal ways:
  1. Cat Sitting (In-Home Visits)
A trusted sitter comes to your home to care for your cat — feeding, cleaning, playing, and offering companionship without changing their environment.
  2. Cat Boarding (Short-Term Relocation to a Pet-Sitter’s Home)
This option can work well for social or adaptable cats, especially if your home will be empty for an extended period. Just make sure your cat is gradually introduced and the boarding home is quiet, cat-friendly, and stress-free.

When Might Travel Be Okay?
There are a few exceptions:
  • You’re moving long-term and your cat will be part of the relocation.
  • Your cat has already traveled regularly and is used to it.
  • It’s a long stay (several months) and you're able to prepare the destination carefully.
In these rare cases, prep is key: get a secure carrier, talk to your vet, consider calming pheromones, and create a “safe space” for your cat at your destination.

Final Thoughts
We get it — your cat is family. But bringing them along on vacation can often do more harm than good.

Instead, let them stay safe and stress-free in the comfort of home, with a trusted sitter who understands feline needs.

At Kitty in NY, we’re here to make that happen — so you can travel with peace of mind, and your cat can nap in their favorite spot, just like always.

Erika provides boarding services in West Harlem and cat sitting services along the west side of Manhattan and the Bronx (close to the 2/3 train line)

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

When I was four, a stray cat (which my brother was secretly feeding) ran into my house and birthed three kittens. We weren’t a pet family at that time and my parents only had childhood experiences of raising dogs.

We became pet/cat people overnight.

Of that litter, one survived for 20 beautiful years. Chichi and I grew up together. Because of her, I’ve always been able to connect with cats — even ‘tough’ cats or strays. She wasn’t the only cat I raised; we came to own two other cats in her lifetime. The three cats couldn’t be more different, and yet, my relationship with each was special. Eventually, they all passed and I wasn’t sure I’d jump back into owning a cat because I was afraid I’d never find cats as great. I was so wrong.
Erika has been cat-sitting with Kitty in NY for a few years. She is excited to offer in-home boarding for her clients. She grew up with three cats and was the loving cat-mama to Figaro for 8 years. Fig was a special cat; anxious, high-needs with his health, and older when she adopted him. He taught her patience and lots of ways to administer medications. Erika is comfortable administering fluids and taking care of high-needs kitties. She understands how stressful it is to leave your sweet kitty when they have lots going on.

She is a bit of a cat whisperer - loves getting even the shyest/suspicious kitties to engage in play. However, she never forces cats beyond their comfort zone - doesn't mind giving a cat its space if that is what it wants.

If you live in on the west side of Manhattan or the Bronx along the 2/3 train line, Erika will be delighted to take care of your cat. Kitty in NY will help you find the best caregiver for in home boarding or cat sitting services. Contact us and send more details about your cat and we will be happy to help you.

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

Helen has been with the agency since 2014 and is a true Kitty in NY veteran. Her first experience was with a sweet little guy named Miu Miu, who flew with his owner all the way from France to NYC. Since his owner travels regularly, Miu Miu has spent considerable time in Helen’s care—and a love-fest has ensued. Helen’s attentive care, and deep affection for animals make her a favorite among repeat clients. She brings a gentle, nurturing energy to every cat she looks after.
Picture
Helen has gone on to have quite a few regulars and is charmed by their individual personalities. Helen lives in a one bedroom Gramercy Park neighborhood apartment (E. 23 St.)
If you are located downtown or midtown Manhattan, Helen would provide the best care for your feline friend. Contact us and send us more details about the service you need. Our in-home boarding service is best for mid/long term, you bring your cat to the caregiver's apartment where he/she will be the only pet. Your cat will enjoy the whole apartment. Our cat sitting visits are recommended for short periods of time. We look forward to helping you with your cat!

From when we first had contact with Helen she was friendly and informative about the process. Our cat, Anu, took to her from when she came for the free initial introduction which immediately help set our minds at ease. While we were away Helen provided daily emails with photos, and her emails made us smile. When we got home Anu had clearly been well looked after.

Helen also seems to genuinely love cats and is knowledgable about their needs and care.

My boyfriend and I had Helen cat sit our two-year-old tabby siblings this summer when we went out of town for the weekend. I can't express how crazy we are about our cats -- they are our babies and we could never put a price on their well-being, safety, and happiness. In the past we've had family watch them, so we were nervous about having a cat sitter. Thankfully, a friend of mine recommended Helen and boy did we luck out.

Helen is incredible. She's very funny, kind, and warm, and knows just the right way to handle every type of cat personality. Our boy is a little piggy and tries to eat his sister's food, our girl hisses at strangers and hides. But she did everything right to make them as comfortable as possible. She sent sweet, detailed emails after her visits along with lots of photos that put us immediately at ease. She took care of feedings, litter, water changing, and cleanup, leaving everything immaculate.

We totally trusted her in our apartment and with our kitties. I can't say enough about Helen and am so relieved we found someone who can care for our cats when we need it. Very highly recommend!!

Helen is AMAZING! I couldn't be happier with her professionalism and help throughout the entire boarding process - my Napoleon, who can be timid with new people at first, warmed up to her immediately. She was also incredibly responsive and communicative while he was in her care, which helps put me at ease given this was my first time ever boarding him.

William took excellent care of my cat who is pretty high maintenance and not very sociable. He made a point of learning about her preferences, daily routine, eating habits, likes and dislikes, etc. From the moment I met William I knew that my cat would be in very good hands. William loves and understands cats. He sent me daily updates with pictures and videos. My cat is rather hard to please and is not usually friendly with strangers. I was amazed at how quickly she warmed up to William. They say that cats are good judges of character. William is such a warm, kind and caring person that even my shy and unsocial cat felt at ease with him. I think she received more attention from him that she does from me. Theresa and John provide boarding services in Jackson Heights, Queens

7/9/2025

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

I consider myself a Cat Mom.  When I was five I gave up on dolls when my parents gave me my first cat and I named her Marbles.  I had her until the year I graduated high school.  While Marbles will always hold a special place in my heart, I learned that I could love other cats.  When I married John, I learned that he loved cats too.  We had Fellini for over twelve years.  When Fellini passed we were devastated.  The only comfort for us came when we adopted two rescues Leo and Lucy.  They filled our apartment with joy.  Last year, Lucia passed at age 15 and Leo at age 18.  They were our kids.  We loved watching TV with them by our side, giving Leo his morning brush and playing with them way past our bed-time. While we know we can never replace them, we welcome house cats that need love when their family is away.  We understand that each cat is unique and we follow all directions given by the cat’s family.  It was always hard for John and I to leave our cats for a trip.  We hope we can make people feel at ease knowing their cats will be loved and taken care of.

Theresa - I have been in education for over 30 years, first as a classroom teacher and later as an Assistant Principal in a New York City public school.  I am currently semi retired but continue to work at my school a few days per week.
John - John is retired but continues to consult teachers on their retirement benefits several hours per week.
Theresa and John might be available to take care of your cat/s while you're away. Home boarding is the best solution for your long term needs, you bring your cat/s to the caregiver's apartment where she/he will be the only pet. Contact us and tell us more about your cat/s and the service you need, we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

I have a very anxious and scared cat because of his history of moving several times to different homes. I feel bad leaving Pi with the sitter to go on vacation but Theresa and John took care of him and made him feel comfortable. They follow through Pi's restricted diet because he's a bit overweight. Theresa would send daily pictures and updates which was nice. They went an extra mile to drop us off because of bad weather after I picked up Pi. I appreciated them taking care of Pi while I was away. Theresa and John are expert, kind, and wonderful cat sitters.

British Shorthair vs Russian Blue vs Korat vs Chartreux – Differences & Comparison of Blue Cat Breeds

7/4/2025

All cats are beautiful and deserve all the love in the world. There are several domestic cat breeds around the globe that make wonderful pets. If you are a cat lover or have been looking around for a suitable house cat, you may have considered the majestic blue-grey felines. The British Shorthair, Russian Blue, Korat, and Chartreux are renowned varieties that are often mixed up due to akin features, primarily their coat color. It can be hard to tell the difference, unless you have done your research beforehand.

Each of these exotic cats are a superb choice to bring home, but they all have distinct personalities (and physical characteristics if you look closely).

If you can’t decide between the four, some explanation will surely grant you clarity:

British Shorthair

The British Shorthair, native to Great Britain, dates back to the first century AD, winning it the title of an ancient feline species. They were originally developed to keep rodents out of the house and were also kept by Romans at sea to eradicate ship vermin. Believe it or not, the British Shorthair comes in a range of colors and patterns, but the solid blue-grey variety is simply the most popular. This cat keeps growing up to three years of age and can get quite big in size. Therefore, it is among those breeds that take ample time to mature; also, it is prone to obesity, so you may have to be careful about feeding habits. Personality wise, these cats are very gentle and laidback. They are perfect for homes having kids and other furry animals, including dogs. They are quite independent, so they won’t get frightened or agitated if left alone in the house. This cat loves to play and bond, though it is not at all clingy. The British Shorthair has a fluffy and matt silvery coat, cobby/stubby body and big round eyes that are gold or copper colored.

Russian Blue

The Russian blue is a naturally occurring breed of Russia and Scandinavia, which emerged after the World War 2. They have long slender bodies, luminous green/yellowish-green eyes, and a thick coat comprising of fine, barbed, and shiny blue-grey hair. Another prominent feature are their large ears that are set wide apart. The Russian blue is a social and agile cat, which likes to explore out of curiosity. They have the tendency to get emotionally attached to one person in particular. They do not mind some alone time, but will demand affection when you return home. This breed is very intelligent, observant, and vocal, though it struggles with adapting to any kind of change.

Korat

The Korat materialized in Thailand along the 19 th century and is known as a variant of the Burmese; it also referred to as a ‘blue Siamese cat’. The Korat is a medium-sized muscular cat possessing a heart shaped head and large amber green eyes. Fun fact: a Korat’s eyes are blue at birth and develop a yellow lining as they grow, eventually turning amber green at maturity. The coat color of this cat is usually a deeper shade of grey, in comparison to its familiars; also, the roots of the hairs are usually lighter than the tips. Korats are quiet and sweet cats, which are very devoted to their human parent; however, they can be unfriendly or aggressive towards other cat breeds in the house.

Chartreux

The Chartreux is a rare French breed, which was first identified in the 15 th century. It is a burly cat, having a rounded face, ears, and body. The cat’s coat is dense and woolly in texture; the hair feels thick and silky. The eyes of a Chartreux are slanted or almond shaped, having a deep yellow to orange coloration. It is generally affectionate, self-contained, and silent, though it mingles well with everyone in the house. It may occasionally follow you around like a dog, which is a nice perk; not to mention, you earn a loyal companion without the risk of dog bite injuries.

However, we unfortunately had to say goodbye to our sweet boy at the age of 21. 11 Signs You’re Completely Obsessed with Cats

6/30/2025

If you love cats, really love cats, here are clear signs that your obsession is absolutely real.

1. You know every cat in your neighborhood.
You recognize them by face, you know which window they nap in, and you check if they’re there every time you walk by.

2. You’re more excited about meeting a kitten than meeting a newborn baby.
Kittens come first. Always.

3. You visit pet stores just to look at the cats up for adoption.
You’re not shopping. You’re just there to admire cats.

4. Your home is designed for your cat.
Cat trees, shelves, beds, scratchers… it’s a cat’s world, you just live in it.

5. Your cat has a social media account.
And your cat is way more popular than you.

6. You celebrate your cat’s birthday. Every year.
Treats, gifts, photos… it’s a real event.

7. You talk to your cat like they understand everything.
Conversations. Full conversations. Every day.

8. Your cat has clothes.
Not just one sweater. A wardrobe.

9. Your phone is full of cat photos.
Thousands of them. Naps, yawns, toe beans, mid-zoomies… every moment matters.

10. Your cat controls how you sleep.
If your cat takes the pillow, you adjust. If they want the blanket, you give it up.

11. You’ve cancelled plans because your cat needed you.
And you’d do it again.

If this sounds like you… welcome. You are officially a cat-obsessed human. At Kitty in NY, we totally get it. We help cat owners in New York find loving, reliable cat sitters and in-home boarding hosts. Your cat deserves the best care while you’re away. 🐾💙
Green eyed kitty in New York apartment during cat sitting visit
When you leave the city for a few days, cat sitting is the best solution. A caregiver will visit your apartment to make sure your cat has fresh food and water, clean bowls and litter, and—most importantly—company and attention. You’ll receive an update with photos after every visit.

In-home boarding is a great option for mid- or long-term stays. You bring your cat to the caregiver’s home, where your cat will be the only pet in the apartment. This is a stress-free alternative to traditional boarding.

Discover CATechisms — Poems in Praise of a Senior Himalayan Cat

Today we’re delighted to share a sneak peek of CATechisms, an upcoming collection of poetry by John Delaney, celebrating the tender, bittersweet relationship with his Himalayan cat facing renal failure.

The Stations

To and from patrols to the litter box
and feeding bowl, he yowls his reports:
‘all clear’. Then, like clockwork, mans the stations:
my chest in bed, my lap on couch or chair,
in his bed beside the laptop in the office.
Those are regular, self-imposed assignments.
But in my absence, there’s another post
he’s partial to partake: a sunny window roast.

Off duty, he makes exploratory
expeditions around the house, forays
into nooks and crannies, sniffing out
the enemy or finding friendly forces.
He target practices a mouse that jerks
erratically, strung along on a string,
and constantly cleans his dress uniform, fur.
Now he sits before me at attention:
‘At your service, Sir.’

Featuring stunning imagery and emotional resonance, this poem and its accompanying photograph first appeared in a literary journal and now grace John’s full-length debut.

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

Hi, I'm Erin, & I'm a huge cat fan! I've been lucky enough to spend more than 4 decades loving & being loved by cats in my home -- so much so that my family has joked for years that we run an old cats' home. Because with us, life is so good, they just want to live forever...14 is "young" in my book! My husband & I live in North Brooklyn with Tuna (The Big Tuna) & Mayo (The Lady McMayonnaise), who we adopted in 2015 & 2016, respectively. We don't consider ourselves cat "owners," but cat "concierges," because really? They own us. We're here to put food in bowls, make the laser dot dance, & provide the comfiest of laps for naps & chin scratchies. I speak fluent scaredy cat, especially since Mayo was rescued from the rough streets of Brooklyn, & I can easily de-escalate aggression, as Tuna's native language was hissing. I'm highly skilled at lasers, cat dancers, & fishing lines, & I'm basically certified at disseminating treats. And 2 of my great life-with-cats accomplishments are teaching a former cat boss to use the toilet, and teaching Tuna how to "speak" to us, by pressing buttons. Because if you're willing to listen, every cat will tell you what they want. That's why I approach every cat I meet with patience, empathy...& song.
