Cat sitting: a good solution for short periods or very shy cats

When you're leaving your apartment for a short period of time (2-6 days) cat sitting could be a good solution. A professional cat sitter would visit your apartment to take care of your cat/s. Our standard visit is 30 minutes but you may request longer visits if needed. Longer visits might be needed when there are more than 2 cats or when administering medication is required.

Our cat sitters have a lot of experience with cats. They are trained to administer medication and will make sure your cats are doing well while you're away.

Tasks included in the standard visit:

cleaning and refilling food and water bowls: your cat sitter will clean and refill each bowl daily
scooping/replacing litter in the litter box
cleaning of both areas (feeding and litter box)
play time: leave your cat's favorite toys and tell the catsitter what your cat loves. They will be glad to spend time playing with your cat!
petting : some cats don't trust strangers but if your cat comes and requests attention we'll be more than happy to pet them. We love cats!
update after every visit: you will receive a photo update (via SMS or email, you decide) after each visit

Now that I’m retired I have the freedom to travel. When I’m gone it’s usually for weeks at a time and thus I am unable to have pets of my own. So it has been a great joy for me to work for KITTY in NY these past 5 1/2 years where I’ve had the pleasure for sitting for about three dozen different cats—each with their own unique personality. I have especially enjoyed getting to know the owners of several of my repeat clients.

No matter how shy at first, or how hostile, any of my kitties have been I’ve yet to meet one that doesn’t end up snuggling on the couch with me. I have compiled a voluminous photo album of all my furry visitors and hope to keep adding pages to it for many years to come.

Three years ago, on a rainy August evening in Miami, as I was walking up to my apartment, I suddenly encountered the love of my life. Off to the side of the path, there was a little gray and brown striped cat, wet and shivering. I stopped right where I stood, heart in my throat, and she ran right up to me. She weaved between my legs a bit before plopping herself right on my sneakered feet. I squealed (as quietly as I could) with delight: just 2 nights before, I had proclaimed to my roommate that we would be getting a cat. We had already began to rearrange our furniture, effectively baby- (or kitty-)proofing the space; we bought oodles of wet food, a comfy bed, a carrier, and tons of toys. We had no idea that 2 days later, we would be welcoming this small furry ball of energy, who came to be called Tootsie, into our home. I am so glad she did!

My name is Gari François and I am a human of many talents. I am originally from NYC. I'm a Prep for Prep, Sacred Heart ('12), Wesleyan ('16), and AmeriCorps/City Year ('17, '18) alumna. Play time - build a bond with your cat

Interactive play time is a very powerful tool to build a strong bond with your cat. It is great for trust-building, exercise, release of energy, avoid cat boredom and depression. A cat who receives a daily dose of play time is a happier cat. Don't overlook the importance of activity, it can avoid many behavior issues.

A key ingredient in interactive activity with your cat is YOU. You may have a variety of cat toys in your apartment but they are dead toys without you. The concept behind any cat toy is to allow your cat to act like the hunter she was born to be. When you move a fishing pole type toy as a prey, the target at the end of the string will slide, dart, creep around the room, waking your cat's hunting instinct.

How you move the toy is important. Don't move it too fast or right in front of her face. That's not how felines hunt in the wild. They stalk their preys. Move the toy slowly across her visual filed. Cats cannot run for long periods of time, you should make her run but allow her time to catch her breath. You should always let her catch her prey at least once per session. The game needs to be fun for the cat, not a frustrating experience. End the game slowling down the speed of the toy and letting her play with the "dead" prey for a minute.

You should have a play session every day. It doesn't need to be long, once or twice a day for 15 minutes will do. The benefits are much greater than the time you invest. Your cat will be a healtheir/happier feline. Those sessions develop her confidence, increase trust and relieve stress.

In between games, you should always store interactive toys. Do not leave them out. You want it to be special and most imporant, you don't want your cat to chew on worn out parts that could be dangerous if swallowed. There are some "solo" toys your cat might enjoy on his own (mice, puzzle feeders, those that are safe when you're not around).

Cats are low maintenance pets but neglecting playtime and attention to your cat can result in obesity and other behavior or health issues.

I love kitty snuggles and honestly just observing them as I think cats are hilarious and have the best personalities. I grew up with 3 cats who all passed by the time I finished high school and then my mom got 3 more cats, so I have always been around lots of cats since birth and multiple cats at once. I have been doing cat care on the side since I started college in 2014. It was a great way for me to still spend time with kitties without having the full-time responsibility of my own in college and I have continued to do it post grad because I love it so much. My roommate currently has 2 cats and although they are hers, I call them "our" cats and love them as my own! I have a lot of experience administering medications to cats including to cats that have had eye infections, are diabetic, have asthma, as well as subcutaneous fluids for cats that are severely dehydrated. Hey there! My name is Sandra and I'm an Illustrator based in Brooklyn who loves to draw sci-fi, fantasy, and especially kitties! I currently live with my partner (who equally loves cats!) in a cozy and quiet 2 bedroom brownstone, so you can assure your kitty will get double the love and attention, or of course, the much needed space to feel comfortable and safe.

With my lifelong love of cats, I carry treats with me to connect with the many strays in my neighborhood and in the past few years I’ve had the privilege of looking after many wonderful cats. I’m here to help you feel connected to your kitty while you're away, and will happily accommodate to your communication style when it comes to updates and photos (which I take a ton of!) as well accommodating the unique personality of your kitty :3

There's nothing better than spending time with a purring furry friend, so I look forward to meeting your kitties and helping them feel at home in my home.

If you need help to take care of your cat please contact us. We recommend cat sitting visits for long weekends and short periods. Sandra was responsive, thoughtful, and fun to board my cat with! She asked great questions when anything was unclear, was a prompt communicator, and took the BEST pictures of my little cat. I felt so comfortable having my cat with her and it truly let me have my mind at ease. I could not recommend Sandra or the service in general more highly!

Greetings! I am Erica, a versatile individual with a diverse background. Growing up on a farm in Brazil, I developed a strong bond with nature and animals, which has influenced my life and career. A decade ago, I made the move to the USA and decided to follow my passion for fitness and wellness by becoming a certified Pilates and Yoga instructor. Today, I help others achieve their health and fitness goals.

Alongside my work as a fitness instructor, I am also pursuing an education in psychoanalysis while holding a major in Business. Through my unique combination of interests and experiences, I bring a well-rounded perspective to everything I do. I am excited to continue my journey and see where it takes me next.

Hi! I'm Genna Beth. I live in LIC/Astoria. I grew up with two cats, Toffee and Bananas. Prior to moving to NYC, I lived in CT with Apollo (the cat in the photo with me), a roommate's cat. I would care for him when she was out of town. We loved to cuddle, and I miss him dearly. I really love all animals, but especially cats, and while I'm not yet ready to bring one permanently into my abode in NYC, I love having furry friends to care for. Many cats take a while to warm-up to a new human, and I'm happy enough to sit patiently until my attention is requested. Then, a grand-kitty-romp or a sit-and-pet are equal treats for me. I always hope to reach the level of cuddle-buddy with a cat, but I realize that's generally reserved for the closest of human friends. As a freelance puppet builder by trade, I work mostly from home so I have the flexibility to get out for cat visits at a wide variety of times. I look forward to meeting you and your kitty (or kitties) soon!

Hello! My name is Jeremy and I am living in the LIC/Astoria area. While I don't have any cats at the moment, I did grow up having cats and understand it can take some time to build trust, just like it does with people. However, once you have a feline's trust, the relationship is truly rewarding. It's all about having patience and allowing the relationship to build on the cat's terms. My full time job is in sales so I am used to and enjoy building relationships whether it be with people or a kitty. I am only in the office part time and have a flexible work from home schedule most days. This allows me to partake in things I like such as playing sports and going to see live music. These events happen in all the boroughs so while I live in LIC/Astoria, I am happy to travel to wherever you are located to spend time, play, and care for what I am sure you consider to be your friend/family member.

Hi my name is Delil. I’m of Kurdish descent and grew up in Germany. I’ve been in the city for almost 10 years being busy working as an actor and have from time to time taken care of many kitties for friends and families. I grew up with cats of my own and it’s hard to find someone who loves cats as much as I do. I’m flexible and punctual due to my German upbringing and live in the West Village. Hope to meet your cats!

If you need a temporary home for your cat, Delil might be available to foster your beloved feline. He lives in a comfortable one bedroom apartment on Bank Street. The clean, well kept apartment has hardwood floors and several windows (all screened). There is plenty of space for a cat to roam around. Cat sitting visits are recommended for short periods, the caregiver comes to your apartment every day for thirty minutes to take care of your cat/s. Grace is a wonderful person. I've known her to be a kind, empathetic, thoughtful, generous and joyful spirit. She is a fierce animal advocate and lover. Her heart explodes when she sees my cats and she takes such amazing care of them. I never have to worry and I've been gone for long periods of time.
