At KITTY in NY, we’re proud to introduce some of the wonderful caregivers who make our service so special. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of working with outstanding individuals who all share one thing in common: a genuine love for cats.

Oscar has been a trusted caregiver with our agency since 2015. He has had a deep connection with animals since childhood, and cats in particular seem to gravitate toward him. Known for his reliability and calm presence, Oscar ensures every detail of your cat’s care is covered—from timely feedings and medication administration to spotless litter and feeding areas. Clients rave about his daily updates, which often include beautiful photos of their cats looking relaxed and happy in his care.

A longtime cat parent himself, Oscar deeply misses his own feline companion who passed away at 16 years old. Today, he channels that love into providing exceptional in-home boarding. When your cat stays with Oscar, they are treated like royalty—roaming freely, lounging in sunny spots, and enjoying quiet companionship.

His light-filled apartment in Jackson Heights is a cozy, peaceful retreat—perfect for cats who need a temporary home while you’re away. Whether you’re traveling for a few days or several weeks, Oscar offers a loving, secure environment and frequent updates to give you complete peace of mind.

The strongest recommendation for Oscar comes from our cat. After the service, he was dropping off the keys. When she heard his voice in the hall, her ears perked up and she went running towards him! Happy kitty.

Booking was fast, easy & reassuringly professional!

Oscar was BRILLIANT! He went above and beyond in caring for my cat, sending me photos and videos while I was away (which made me want to come to the cat!!). But Oscar also dealt with me with kindness and compassion - I had to mess him around a bit, due to health issues I'm dealing with - he never once made me feel like I was being painful (even though I was). He even took the cat litter rubbish/wet food cans home with him, and didn't leave them for me to deal with. I'd recommend Oscar in a heartbeat - he clearly loves cats, but he's also a really good human being.

Oscar was GREAT. He got our crabby kitty to play with him which i didn’t think would be possible. She is so skeptical of strangers and has swiped at many cat sitters in the past. The photos Oscar sent showed our kitty engaged and happy and i also really appreciate his consistent schedule and updates. He also took beautiful photos of her! 500000 stars.

Oscar was a perfect caregiver to my Maxie on the two days I had to be away. When Oscar first met Maxie, he let Maxie sniff him in order for Maxie to get comfortable with him. Oscar asked me all the necessary questions in order to provide the best service. He played with Maxie and took gorgeous pictures and videos of him during his visits, he cleaned the litter box, and after feeding Maxie, he took the empty cans of food with him to throw away elsewhere as there were no signs of discarded cans in the kitchen trash. He even cleaned Maxie's food bowls and let them dry by the sink. He also took a picture of my apartment keys so that I would know where to find them. I couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you!

When we had our initial meeting he was very respectful and he had a great vibe. He took the most amazing pictures and videos and gave daily updates.

I asked for a sitter who would be open to visit twice a day, with fresh food in the morning and evening. With each visit, Oscar sent texts with pics and videos providing evidence he was making an effort to interact w/ my anti-social cat, Buddy. Oscar even got Buddy to play w/ toys that I thought he had long ago lost interest in. It was clear from when I introduced Oscar to Buddy that he was a cat person - even Buddy was immediately rubbing against his legs. When I returned home after a 4-day weekend, Buddy was clearly healthy and the apartment was not the wreck I expected from my cat.

Oscar went above & beyond a regular cat sitter - he sent beautiful photos and updates about how my cat was doing everyday while I was away. I didn't want to bother him by bombarding him with questions everyday, and yet he was happily giving me updates whether or not I asked. He showed genuine care and affection towards my cat and I couldn't have asked or entrusted anyone better while I was away. I would ask Oscar to catsit for me again in a heartbeat.

Oscar is just the best. Our cat Biscuit is not the friendliest cat in the world (to say the least), but she seemed to enjoy the time she spent with Oscar. And he sent us texts on a nightly basis along with the best photos anyone (including us) has ever taken of our cat. Oscar's extremely conscientious and we can't recommend him enough. We're so glad we found him.

Oscar took care of my cat for a little less than a week. I have zero complaints...everything went smoothly and Oscar followed all of my written instructions  (which weren't too intricate - fortunately, I don't have a high maintenance cat). He also took amazing photos of Asher in action during their daily playtime! I would definitely use them again and highly recommend others to as well!

Kitty in NY and our cat sitter Oscar are life-savers! Oscar cared for our cat as if it was his own, petting, playing, feeding and loving her every single day that we were out of town on vacation. What's more, he sent amazing pictures and status updates of our kitty each day!  Can't recommend him and the company highly enough - thank you Oscar and kitty in NY!!!

I immediately was drawn to how warm, genuine and all around nice Oscar was - everyone loved Oscar ! My cats loved Oscar ! My hubby loved Oscar ! Even my doorman loved Oscar ! Even almost a month later, when I told my doorman Oscar is coming back to watch the cats again - they were like: " Oh, yeah, Oscar, very nice guy."

Literally, he was so nice, that even my doormen remembered him from a month before! Additionally, he takes professional photographer like photos and sent us a bunch of pictures each time that were one of a kind !

Very professional and considerate. Email updates everyday with photo and video attachments. Not only took care of my cat but also cleaned the environment.

I do feel that Oscar has the passion and love for cats and it reflected on his cat-sitting works. My cat is shy, not every caregiver got the chance to see or pet my cat but Oscar made it all, which took me by surprise. I guess my cat likes him!

Jean was a delight beginning to end. She made sure our kitties felt at home immediately and sent regular updates. When she was running low on a supply, she let us know with enough time that we could ship some to her. I was so nervous to leave my cats for such a long period of time, but that nervousness dispelled the moment I watched her interact with my girls.

Jean is the absolute best. She went above and beyond for my cats while I was away for just over two months, and really went above and beyond for me as well, making sure I had whatever updates she could provide, even if only to say that the cats were doing just fine! My biggest stressor when I was preparing for my extended business trip was what was going to happen with my cats while I was gone, and Jean alleviated every single fear or worry I ever could have possibly had. From the photos and updates she sent it was very clear that my cats loved her, and she loved them, which is more than I ever could have asked for. She’ll be my first choice for cat care from here on out.

Holiday Safety Tips for Cats: How to Keep Your Kitty Safe This Christmas

12/11/2025

The holidays can be a joyful time for humans, but for cats they often mean noise, crowds, unfamiliar smells, and hidden dangers around the house. Whether you’re hosting guests or traveling, a little preparation goes a long way in keeping your cat calm, safe, and healthy during Christmas and New Year’s.
Here are our essential holiday safety tips for cats.

1. Create a Safe Room if You’re Hosting Guests
If you’re having people over, especially loud or unfamiliar guests, consider setting up a quiet room just for your cat.

A safe room should include:
  • Food and fresh water
  • A clean litter box
  • A cozy bed or hiding spot
  • Familiar blankets or items with their scent
This helps reduce stress and prevents accidental escapes when doors are opening constantly.

2. Be Careful with Candles, Fireplaces, and Decorations
Open flames are one of the biggest holiday hazards.
  • Never leave lit candles unattended
  • Keep cats away from fireplaces and hot radiators
  • Avoid dangling decorations that can be pulled down
Cats are curious by nature, and one jump can cause burns or accidents.

3. Watch Out for Ribbons, Tinsel, and Gift Wrapping
Many festive items look like toys but are dangerous if swallowed.
Avoid leaving around:
  • Ribbons, string, bows, and tinsel
  • Plastic wrap and packaging materials
Ingesting these can cause serious intestinal blockages that require emergency surgery.
Picture
4. Do NOT Feed Cats Human Holiday Food
It’s tempting to share, but many holiday foods are toxic to cats.
Never give cats:
  • Onions, garlic, chives
  • Chocolate, sweets, or anything with sugar or xylitol
  • Alcohol
  • Fatty foods (turkey skin, gravy, butter)
Stick to your cat’s regular diet to avoid stomach upset or worse.

5. Christmas Trees and Plants: Proceed with Caution
If you have a Christmas tree:
  • Secure it so it can’t tip over
  • Avoid tinsel entirely
  • Cover the tree water (it may contain fertilizers or bacteria)
Be especially careful with toxic plants, including:
  • Lilies (extremely dangerous for cats)
  • Poinsettias
  • Mistletoe
When in doubt, keep plants out of reach or skip them altogether.

6. Fireworks and Loud Noises
Fireworks, loud music, and sudden noises can be terrifying for cats.
  • Keep windows and doors closed
  • Play soft background music to mask loud sounds
  • Make sure your cat is safely indoors during New Year’s celebrations
Never bring cats to fireworks displays.

7. Traveling for the Holidays?
If you’re traveling, cats usually do best staying in their familiar environment.
A professional cat sitter or in-home boarding caregiver can:
  • Maintain your cat’s routine
  • Reduce stress
  • Provide updates and peace of mind
At Kitty in NY, we carefully match each cat with a caregiver who understands their personality and needs, even during the busiest holiday season.

A Calm Holiday Is the Best Gift
Cats don’t need decorations, parties, or presents.
They need consistency, safety, and calm.
With a little planning, you can enjoy the holidays knowing your kitty is comfortable and well cared for.

Need holiday care for your cat?
Contact Kitty in NY and tell us about your cat and your travel plans. We’ll help you find the best caregiver available in your area.

Holiday Travel in NYC: Sitting Visits or Home Boarding? How to Choose the Best Cat Care for Christmas

12/4/2025

Christmas season is one of the busiest times of the year for cat caregivers at Kitty in NY.

When you travel during the holidays, there are two main options to consider for your cat:
  • Sitting visits at your home (quick, simple, familiar space)
  • In-home boarding in the caregiver’s home (longer stays, stable company)
Both are great, but the best choice depends on your cat’s personality, routine needs, and trip duration.

Sitting Visits: Best for Cats Who Love Their Territory

If your cat enjoys its home more than people (aka most cats), sitting visits are ideal. A caregiver stops by to:
  • Feed, refresh water, clean the litter box
  • Offer playtime or quiet company
  • Keep daily routine intact without changing environments
This option works beautifully for:
  • Independent cats
  • Cats that don’t like strangers
  • Those traveling 2–6 days
Cats are usually happier where they feel they own the universe.
Picture

Home Boarding: Best for Social or Sensitive Cats

In-home boarding means your cat stays at a caregiver’s home. This option offers:
  • Continuous attention and companionship
  • Less stress for cats that feel lonely when humans vanish
  • A safe, structured environment for longer trips
This is the best fit for:
  • Affectionate cats or emotional homebodies
  • Cats requiring medication, shots, or special care routines
  • Those traveling over 7 days

If you're traveling during Christmas and still unsure what your cat might prefer, we’re always happy to help you choose: just contact our team, and we’ll handle the details so your cat enjoys the holidays safely and comfortably.

Meet Gloria, offering home cat boarding in Hamilton Heights, Manhattan

12/4/2025

At Kitty in NY, we handpick caregivers who genuinely love cats, and Gloria is a perfect example of that spirit. “I have always had a love for cats. Their beauty, diversity and personality difference is apparent to each individual cat, no matter the breed. Their aloofness and independence are what I love the most, though some can be wonderfully affectionate as well.”

Gloria worked with Kitty in NY for several years as an in-home boarder before Covid-19. Over that time, she built strong trust with clients, many of whom traveled regularly during the holidays, summer months, and long seasonal trips. One of her most loyal returning clients spent every summer in Europe, leaving their beloved cat in her care for multiple years, often for several months at a time. “They trusted me with their precious pet for several months, year after year. I had many returning clients, especially owners who traveled regularly for the holidays.”

Caring for cats in a home environment offers something unique : comfort, calm, familiar routines, and personal attention. For Gloria, in-home boarding has always been an alternative she admires and enjoys facilitating. “Being an in-home boarder gives me the opportunity to offer cat owners a safe, loving option in my home, where their cats can enjoy the same freedom they would have at their own home.”
Picture
Gloria also recognizes the value of working alongside our agency to make long-term plans smooth and stress-free. “I appreciate having Kitty in NY intercede any issues or changes with the contract. It’s important to have an agency as an intermediary: especially when clients need flexibility or extended stays.”

If you're looking for a boarding service in Manhattan (NYC) with personalized, home-based attention, Gloria is ready to welcome your cat into her cozy, cat-friendly space.

Home boarding offers a stable routine, low stress, safe space, and the emotional comfort that only a home environment can provide. At Kitty in NY, all caregivers follow clearly established guidelines and communication protocols to ensure that every cat stay is safe, structured and filled with individual love and attention.

If this feels like the right choice for your cat, we’re happy to guide you through the next steps and ensure a seamless boarding experience.
