Hi, I'm Melissa - I've been a volunteer cat foster parent for two years, and a lifelong cat lover who's had many special kitties as pets. I pride myself on understanding cat communication and body language very well, and interacting with them on their terms. Whether they want to snuggle, play, or even hide, I create a safe and peaceful environment for them to be themselves. I love all of their unique personalities and delight in getting to know them, even for a short time. When I was four, a stray cat (which my brother was secretly feeding) ran into my house and birthed three kittens. We weren’t a pet family at that time and my parents only had childhood experiences of raising dogs.

We became pet/cat people overnight.

Of that litter, one survived for 20 beautiful years. Chichi and I grew up together. Because of her, I’ve always been able to connect with cats — even ‘tough’ cats or strays. She wasn’t the only cat I raised; we came to own two other cats in her lifetime. The three cats couldn’t be more different, and yet, my relationship with each was special. Eventually, they all passed and I wasn’t sure I’d jump back into owning a cat because I was afraid I’d never find cats as great. I was so wrong.

Erika has been cat-sitting with Kitty in NY for a few years. She is excited to offer in-home boarding for her clients. She grew up with three cats and was the loving cat-mama to Figaro for 8 years. Fig was a special cat; anxious, high-needs with his health, and older when she adopted him. He taught her patience and lots of ways to administer medications. Erika is comfortable administering fluids and taking care of high-needs kitties. She understands how stressful it is to leave your sweet kitty when they have lots going on.

She is a bit of a cat whisperer - loves getting even the shyest/suspicious kitties to engage in play. However, she never forces cats beyond their comfort zone - doesn't mind giving a cat its space if that is what it wants.

Known for their unique looks and bat-like ears, Oriental shorthair cats have surely captured the attention of many cat owners. These adorable cats simply can’t be ignored. One of their specific characteristics is their intelligence, but also their chattiness and loving nature. What do you know about this cat breed? - Here are some facts about the Oriental Shorthair cat’s personality and main characteristics.

Main features of Oriental Shorthair Cats

Before we dive deeper into the personality of these interesting cats, let’s examine their physical features. How can you recognize an oriental shorthair cat? - First of all, this cat has triangular head shape and large ears with almond-shaped eyes. Oriental shorthairs resemble Siamese cats mainly due to the fact that their origin is the Siamese cat. The key difference between these two cat breeds is that Orientals can come in various coat colors unlike Siamese who always have pointed coat.

Furthermore, Oriental shorthair cats have green eyes while all Siamese have blue eyes. Therefore if you are the type of person who wouldn’t stand to have someone in your home that talks too much, maybe Orientals aren’t the best cat companions for you. On the other hand, if you need a friend and want to have a sociable and demanding cat, the Oriental Shorthair cat is your ideal buddy.

They are athletic and agile

If you adopt an Oriental shorthair cat make sure to keep her entertained. These cats are very athletic and agile and really enjoy playing with teaser toys or other games to keep their brain active. Orientals love to climb and jump, so make sure you get them cat trees or create other similar cat corners. Keep in mind that it is very likely that your oriental will learn to open doors and drawers as a result of their curiousity and playfulness.

Orientals are affectionate

In general, oriental shorthair cats are very opinionated and love to express their feelings. Moreover, they tend to show their affection and love towards their humans, so if you have one in your home expect a lot of attention from them. Orientals love to watch and observe your every move and wouldn’t like to be separated from you. In other words, they can become clingy as they need your attention. I’m Denny Daniel and I am curator and founder of The Museum of Interesting Things. I teach kids and adults and so have a friendly curious attitude and get along with people as well as pets! I work for myself so I am home a lot. My last cat Tristan was a rescue and I loved him more than anything and he was pampered and sweet. I also cat sat for all my friends' cats for years too so I am used to various cats. I want to share that love now. I live with my mother in a beautiful clean large private house in Jamaica Estates Queens so your cat will also be pampered like my dear Tristan was. I also have an apt in the Village where the Museum resides and own a car so I can also pick up and drop off your cat from anywhere. I love driving. I am a photographer and teach so your cat pics will be the cat’s meow!

Every morning and night, she sent me photos and videos of my cat with some text saying exactly what she had done with him and how he was doing.
