We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

My name is Albena and I live in a spacious 1 bedroom apartment, near the Bronx Botanical Garden.  I know that your cat/s will love living here not only because of the abundance of space to run and leap, but also because I have a wonderful cat tree where they can climb and sharpen their claws.

I also provide cat sitting services in your home as I am willing to travel throughout the Bronx and Manhattan.  I am a professional dancer and my job provides me with a flexible schedule to meet your needs.  Your pet will be happy receiving the warmth and attention they deserve.

If your kitty has special medical needs I am adept at administering pills, drops, subcutaneous fluids and diabetic injections.  My sensitivity for shy cats help to give extra soothing comfort.  My clients have returned to find their pets friends a bit sweeter.  Clients have been kind enough to provide me with a five star rating.

As a passionate animal lover, I grew up with cats predominately.  My entire family consists of cat people with amazing stories to tell.  My love and interest in the feline kingdom has grown over the years while owning numerous cats, deeply bonding with them, playing, cuddling, learning about their unique personalities and also witnessing (as difficult as it has been) their transitions.  It will be an honor and a pure joy to meet you and your furry friend/s...

If you live uptown or in the Bronx, Albena will provide the perfect temporary home for your cat/s. Her spacious apartment is kitty proof, your cat/s will enjoy the huge cat tree in her living room. Contact us with more information about your service.

KITTY in NY provides cat sitting and boarding services. Our 30 min cat sitting visits are recommended for short periods. If you need to leave for 10 days or more we can board your cat with one of our caregivers. Your kitty will be the only pet in the apartment. it is a great option for mid/long term periods. Read more about cat sitting and boarding in our blog.

I was very satisfied with the services Albena provided for ICY.
Icy had a fabulous time. Albena provided photos everyday of Icy playing in the cat tree, playing with toys, looking out the window and just being a cozy cat in a blanket. I will surely use Kitty in NY again. Thanks so much.

Upon meeting Albena at the interview I was sure she was a cat lover, and that my cat Baby would have a great stay! Albena was so great at sending daily photos of Baby, which gave me great comfort that she was doing well! When I picked her up, it seemed as if Baby was so at home, she just might not want to leave!
All in all it was a great choice and I thank you so much!!!

Albena took care of our cat Chase for two weeks while we were away. Albena loves cats and has a special connection with them. She talks to them, plays with them and is very attentive to their needs. When Chase was not eating in the beginning of her visit Albena bought her special paste to bring back her appetite. She totally converted Chase to healthier food, which she refused to eat in the past. She sent us regular updates, and we found Chase very relaxed and comfortable in her home two weeks later.

I have always been a huge animal lover growing up with all sorts of pets between dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and even a duck! I currently now have two cats who I adore. I moved to NYC almost 7 years ago after moving from Chicago. I also work down in Fidi. I am very excited about the opportunity to take care of your pet and look forward to meeting you!

We would like to introduce you to some of our caregivers. KITTY in NY has selected over the years some outstanding people who have one thing in common: they LOVE cats!

I have a great spacious one-bedroom apartment in the heart of Forest Hills. I live alone and my apartment is very safe for the cats. I have taken care of cats for over 15 years.  The cats usually take over my apartment and I just pay the rent.... They always feel very comfortable and they can sleep with me in my room, go on the couch, pretty much whatever they want to do. I keep treats for the cats when the behave and am very gentle with the cats. I love playing with them as well as I am at a Petland buying up the store for them.

They call me the "cat lady" so to speak... I have had a lap cat in the past and simply loved when she would curl up on my lap. My last two cats lived until 20 and 21  years of age... they were pretty much spoiled. Well that is pretty much my "cat life story". Rest assured you cat would be extremely safe with me.
I am experienced in giving medication to cats.

I'm now retired so your cats won't feel lonely.

The cats got comfortable in Beth's apartment very quickly. We could tell she's truly a cat person. She let them sleep on her bed and had all kinds of toys for them to play with. We felt very reassured by Beth's caretaking and did not have reasons to worry one bit while we were on vacation, knowing that they're in a cozy place and are being loved. Beth certainly has her way with cats!

A big shout-out goes out to Beth for handling my not-so-easy Bengal Pigeon. Beth watched Pigeon for 3 weeks. Not only did she survive his neediness and torrent of meows, but Mr. Pigeon came back to house calmer than he left. Beth even got him into a feeding routine that will greatly please our vet, since he’s gained a little weight (a goal for our picky old man). She’s very experienced with cats. I would leave Pigeon with her again in heartbeat; and I dare say, he enjoyed the time that he spent with her too. Many thanks to all!

Beth was fantastic about keeping me up-to-date with Mochi's well-being/condition for the duration of Mochi's stay with her. Mochi seemed very happy and content in the photos, and upon her return home with me, she was extremely relaxed without any apparent anxiety or clinginess. Mochi's happy state was a very good indication that she was well cared for during her stay with Beth. Beth asked a lot of great, thoughtful questions when I dropped off Mochi, and she took the time to show me around the spaces that Mochi would be in and to make sure that everything was set up for Mochi to settle in quickly. All in all, I'm very thankful that Mochi was in such great hands and I thank Kitty in NY for matching us up.

Beth did a wonderful job with my tuxedo cat Rami, she provided her own litter box and treats and was all around very lovely to meet and speak with! :) She sent me regular updates of how Rami was doing during his stay, i wasn't sure if Rami would feel comfortable being in another person's home at first, but he seemed very comfortable and right at home by the first night, he was out and about, using Beth's litter box and eating all his dry food. Burmese Cats: Everything You Need to Know

2/17/2025

Burmese cats are a charming, affectionate breed that has won hearts around the world. Known for their striking appearance and playful temperament, these cats make wonderful companions. In this blog article, we’ll explore the physical description, origins, daily care, and common health concerns specific to the Burmese breed.

Burmese cats are medium-sized, muscular felines with a compact and sturdy build. They have a distinctive, shiny short coat that comes in a range of colors—from the classic sable (rich, dark brown) to blue, chocolate, lilac, red, and cream. One of their most captivating features is their large, expressive eyes, which are typically gold or green. Their rounded head, short muzzle, and sleek body combine to give them an elegant yet robust appearance that exudes both warmth and vitality.

The Burmese breed traces its roots to Southeast Asia, though it was refined and popularized in the United States during the 1930s. The foundation of the modern Burmese cat is often credited to a cat named Wong Mau, brought from Burma (now Myanmar). Breeders in the U.S. were captivated by her striking appearance and friendly demeanor, and through selective breeding—often involving Siamese cats—developed the breed we recognize today. This careful breeding helped create a cat known not only for its beautiful looks but also for its affectionate and people-oriented nature.

Burmese cats are relatively low-maintenance when it comes to grooming due to their short, glossy coat. A weekly brushing is usually sufficient to remove loose hairs and keep their coat looking its best. Because they are active and social, it’s important to provide them with plenty of interactive play and mental stimulation. Regular play sessions, puzzle feeders, and climbing structures can help keep them physically and mentally healthy. In addition, ensuring they have access to fresh water, a balanced diet, and routine vet check-ups will contribute to their overall well-being.
Picture
Overall, Burmese cats are a generally healthy breed with a long lifespan, often reaching 16 years or more. However, like all breeds, they can be prone to certain health issues:
  • Diabetes Mellitus: Due to their love of food and potential for weight gain, Burmese cats can be at risk for diabetes if overfed or under-exercised. Maintaining a healthy weight through proper diet and regular activity is key.
  • Obesity: Their sociable nature and appetite make it important to monitor their food intake and ensure they get enough exercise.
  • Dental Issues: Regular dental care, including brushing their teeth and routine vet dental check-ups, can prevent periodontal problems common in many cats.
  • Hereditary Conditions: While less common, it’s important to choose a reputable breeder who screens for genetic disorders, ensuring a healthy start for your Burmese companion.
Regular veterinary check-ups are essential to catch any potential issues early and to keep your cat in optimal health.

The Burmese cat breed offers a delightful blend of beauty, personality, and resilience. Their affectionate nature, striking appearance, and relatively easy-going care requirements make them an excellent choice for many families. By staying mindful of their dietary needs, maintaining an active lifestyle, and scheduling regular veterinary visits, you can help ensure that your Burmese cat leads a long, healthy, and happy life.

Whether you’re a longtime cat lover or considering your first pet, the Burmese cat is a breed that promises both companionship and endless charm.

What is In-Home Cat Boarding?

2/13/2025

In-home cat boarding is a convenient service that allows cat owners to find a temporary home for their furry friends while they’re away. Instead of traditional boarding facilities, your cat receives personalized, 24-hour care in a warm, home-like environment provided by dedicated cat lovers—all at an affordable rate. At Kitty in NY, we carefully select the top caregivers across the city to ensure your pet is treated like family. Plus, we encourage our clients to leave reviews and feedback after each service, helping us continually maintain the highest quality of care.

We visit and meet the caregivers to ensure they are qualified to watch your cat. When the best option for your cat is confirmed you may meet and visit the perspective caregiver. The in-home cat boarding service provides a no cost, no obligation meet and greet for the client and potential caregiver to see if it will be a good fit.

In-home cat boarding services offer cats individual attention, your cat/s would be the only pets in the apartment. They can also keep up with your pet’s regular routine — including eating schedules, grooming necessities, and daily playtime requirements — so your cat has less anxiety while you’re away.

While price is certainly a consideration, how your cat will be cared for while you’re away is paramount. We believe we provide the best solution for our clients in New York City. Our caregivers enjoy having a cat for a few days (or a few months). This would be the only solution for a long term boarding. You can now take a long break, pursue a carreer opportunity overseas for a few months or visit family and friends for long periods of time. Your cat will be in good hands and you will receive periodic updates during the boarding.

Kitty in NY isn’t just about connecting owners and caregivers but also ensuring quality through caregiver reference checks, reviews, personal interviews, online training and follow up during the boarding:
  1. Is the caregiver’s home clean and safe? Before you head out to tour Europe, head over to the caregiver's apartment that you’re considering to confirm your cat will be placed in a cat friendly, secure home. The meet and greet is free, it is the best way to ensure the caregiver we selected is your best match. We can propose several caregivers until you find your match.
  2. Are the caregivers responsible and reliable? We meet and interview all our caregivers. They have been cat owners that for different reasons do not own a cat at the moment. They have the experience of taking care of a cat and enjoy cat company.
  3. Our caregivers have no pets of their own, your cat will be the only pet in the apartment. This helps reduce the stress of your cat and the time to get adjusted to the new environment.
  4. What’s the daily routine of your cat? If your cat needs his pill at a certain time of day, or likes to play with you before dinner time, be sure that the in-home boarding care will be accommodating following your cat's routine. Consider feeding, medication, physical needs and hygienic needs. All those details will be included in the contract.
  5. Provide full disclosure. In addition to interviewing the in-home cat caregiver, providing an out-of-town contact number, it’s a cat parent’s job to be open and transparent about a cat’s needs. Share as much info about your cat’s personality, needs and medical history as possible to ensure your pet has a fabulous time on his vacation!
Kitty in NY is the best in-home cat boarding solution in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. We will be glad to help you with your cat/s!
